The 1990's

From the lessons learned in the previous decades, English stadiums were reconfigured to seat every fan they could hold. With games be shown exclusively on the BBC, clubs were unhappy about the lack of revenue they were receiving from match broadcasts. This laid the foundations for the Premier League which started in 1992, allowing it to take advantage of a television deal worth £304 million, an unheard of sum at the time. Along, as well, came the reincarnation of the European Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the most prestigious club tournament in the world. Football fans in 90's began to adorn themselves in the colours of their favorite teams, purchasing replica shirts, scarves and other merchandise, and travelling around their respective countries, and the world, to support their clubs at away games.
