The 1950's

The World Cup returned in 1950, and the host nation built the biggest stadium the world had ever seen - the Maracana. The game was resurrected in Britain, with over 40 million people turning up to games at the start of the decade, despite the national team not doing so well on the world stage. Communist Hungary developed their football program, leading to one of the greatest national sides the world had yet seen, and a team of German amateur's won the World Cup thanks to an amazing new technology - screw in studs. The Brazilian national team started to come to the fore, led by a young man named Pele, and club football in Europe continued to grow and expand with the introduction of the European Cup.
